Georgian Restaurant Industry Grows by 26.7%

According to data released by Geostat.Ge, 20 000 people are employed by restaurants in Georgia and the industry accounted for 1.2% of the Georgian economy in the first half of 2016. The combined gross income of the restaurant industry was 330 million GEL in the first half of this year. The restaurant business is one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy and grew by 26.7% according to the most recently released data. By contrast the hotel trade employs almost half as many people as restaurants, and brought in 111 million GEL in the first half of the year.

The rapid growth rate of the restaurant industry has been attributed to robust demand by both local residents and foreign visitors.
