The Minister of Internal Affairs, Giorgi Mgebrishvili and the chairman of the Central Electoral Commission, Tamar Zhvania have signed a memorandum of mutual understanding. The memorandum has been signed after recommendations were made by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).
“By signing this memorandum we’re agreeing that we’ll deepen our cooperation for the common good - ensuring that voting is conducted in a safe and peaceful manner. I think through defending the law and through active cooperation between the MIA and the CEC we will have a peaceful, trustworthy and transparent election environment” - said the Minister of Internal Affairs.
According to the Chairman of the Electoral Commission the memorandum also serves to secure the principle of political neutrality.
“Our aim is to guarantee a well organised election for our citizens on October 8, so that they can carry out their civic responsibility in a free environment. The MIA and CEC realise the principle of political neutrality and its protection. That’s exactly why we’re signing this memorandum today” - said Tamar Zhvania
