During a meeting with the Prime Minister, US Lieutenant General John Nicholson said that the US firmly supports Georgia’s territorial integrity. Nicholson, who is commander of NATO’s troops in Afghanistan, thanked Georgia for its contribution to international security.
In a statement issued on the Government of Georgia website, the Lieutenant General said:
"First, I would like to thank the Government of Georgia for Georgia's contribution to international security efforts. Georgians have been serving alongside Americans for years in Afghanistan, and we certainly appreciate their contribution. We extend our sympathies to the wounded and mourn those killed. As we continue our mission in Afghanistan, it feels great knowing that we can count on the professionalism of the Georgian soldiers. During our meeting with the Prime Minister and the Defense Minister of Georgia, we discussed our bilateral cooperation. As an American general, I cannot overestimate our appreciation of partnership with Georgia, as clearly demonstrated by the Noble Partner joint trainings, which involved American and British soldiers participating in training together with their Georgian counterparts. The US firmly supports Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty," said General John Nicholson.
