The Legal Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia has elected as deputy chairman Nato Chkheidze, a member of the Patriots’ Alliance. Chkheidze received 8 votes, whereas United National Movement member Otar Kakhidze received 4. All eight voters were from Georgian Dream party, whereas the only votes Kakhidze received were from the UNM itself.
On her facebook page, the leader of UNM’s second faction in the Parliament, Elene Khoshtaria, said that “Chkheidze was asked about her vision. The candidate said that she can’t add anything that isn’t already on the agenda. Whereas Kakhidze has listed the problems of hearings, court reforms and other important directions. It’s obvious they simply voted for the Patriots’ Alliance.”
Chairman of the Legal Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Eka Beselia, stated that she gave her support to Chkheidze for the sake of gender balance. She also added that Nato Chkheidze has been a member of parliament twice so she has the needed experience.
According to Otar Kakhidze, the election of Nato Chkheidze was a clear demonstration of Georgian Dream’s support to the Patriots’ Alliance.
“The candidate couldn’t list any important directions or any important bilsl which she plans to put forward. This was not a personal decision, but a political decision, demonstrating Georgian Dream’s support for the Patriots’ Alliance. I’m not surprised...I will still work as a member of the committee to forward bills important for the people.”
Nato Chkheidze was 3rd on the Patriots’ Alliance party list and she owns a 30% share in television company “Iberia”.
On November 19, The 9th parliament of Georgia has elected its committee chairmen, all of whom are Georgian Dream party members. The president suggested the candidacy of Giorgi Kvirikashvili for the post of Prime Minister which he currently holds.
