The student activist group ‘Auditorium 115’ held a protest late on May 9th in front of the Parliament building on Rustaveli avenue in Tbilisi, demanding the government establish a system of labour inspection. The protest came after four miners were killed in a construction accident on May 9th in the Tkibuli-Mindeli coal mine in western Georgia. The miners fell from a height of 400 meters when the rope holding the transportation elevator they were repairing broke.
Protesters confronted the police and three persons were detained, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
A case is underway for violation of Articles 166 and 172 of the Administrative Offenses Code of Georgia, which implies petty hooliganism and resisting police.
