Over 1 million Mobile Phones Sold in Georgia in 2016

1,095,216 mobile phones were sold in Georgia in 2016, worth 120 million USD (324 million GEL), the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) said in a report.

The average price of the  mobile phones bought is 109 USD (296 GEL), meaning they are most likely smartphones. Compared to the data for 2015, 100,000 less mobile phones were sold, but costed 25 million USD more.

Mobile phone purchases has grown dramatically in 2017. 145 million USD worth of mobile phones were imported in Georgia in the first nine months of 2017, which is 27.6% more compared to the same period of last year.

According to the Georgian National Communications Commission, in 2016 the most purchased  mobile phone brands in Georgia were:

  1. Samsung - 28.1%
  2. Nokia/Microsoft - 25.1%
  3. Apple - 9.2%
  4. Huawei - 7.7%
  5. Lenovo - 4.8%
  6. Quectel - 3.4%
  7. TCT - 2.5%
  8. Sony/Ericsson - 2.4%
  9. LG - 1.7%
  10. HTC - 1.5%
  11. Other - 13.6%

Georgia has a population 3.7 million, which means that 27% of the population changed or bought their mobile phones in 2017.
