24-year-old weightlifter Lasha Talakhadze from Georgia set a new world record on December 6 and won the World Weightlifting Championships for the second time.
At the 2017 world championship in Anaheim, California, Talakhadze beat his own record by 4 kilograms lifting 210, 215, and 220 kilos in 3 tries.
Iranian weightlifter Alihosseini Saeid took second place and got a silver medal, while the bronze medal went to another Iranian weightlifter, Salimkordasiabi Behdad.
Georgia’s weightlifting team finished the 2017 World Weightlifting Championship with 7 medals in total and took third place as a team. Georgian athletes received 5 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medals.
