The Government of Georgia is starting reforms on natural resources and subsoil with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili announced today at the government meeting. The Prime Minister called the proposed reforms an “important novelty.”
"We are working on a completely new approach that envisages a balanced approach to the more efficient utilization of our natural resources, in order to take into consideration environmental aspects as well as many other aspects, including Occupational Safety and Health,” Kvirikashvili said.
According to the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and Ministry of Agriculture will be involved in the reforms, with the support of the EBRD.
"The next step will be to significantly change the legislative framework for our country to respond to the new requirements, including high environmental standards, optimal utilization of natural resources, and the inclusion of these natural resources in the economic development of the country,” Kvirikashvili said.
