Crime Rose by 5% in Georgia in 2017

Georgian Police reported there were 37,944 violations of the Criminal Code in 2017, which is 5.4% more compared to 2016, according to statistics recently released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. The MIA has previously not disclosed the official statistics throughout the past two years.

Crime Statistics by categorization in 2017

  • All categories of violation of the Criminal Code - 37944 cases in 2017 (35 997 in 2016)
  • Intentional murder - 99 cases in 2017 (114 in 2016)
  • Attempted intentional murder 87 cases in 2017 (84 cases in 2016)
  • Intentional harm to health - 224 cases in 2017 (195 cases in 2016)
  • Domestic violence - 2143 cases in 2017 (1356 cases in 2016)
  • Rape - 59 cases in 2017 (57 cases in 2016)
  • Unlawful restriction of freedom - 72 cases in 2017 (47 cases in 2016)
  • Trafficking - 21 cases in 2017 (19 cases in 2016)
  • Threatening - 482 cases in 2017 (298 cases in 2016)
  • Theft - 10 578 cases in 2017 (9646 cases in 2016)
  • Robbery - 275 cases in 2017 (267 cases in 2016)
  • Stealing - 291 cases in 2017 (367 cases in 2016)
  • Fraud - 1568 cases in 2017 (1377 cases in 2016)
  • Extortion - 93 cases in 2017 (55 cases in 2016)
  • Unlawful keeping/transportation/carrying/selling of firearms, explosives or other types of weaponry - 1138 cases in 2017 (1258 cases in 2016)
  • Carrying of cold weapon - 325 cases in 2017 (271 cases in 2016)
  • Violation of security measures at the workplace - 163 cases in 2017 (133 cases in 2016)
  • All kinds of drug related crimes - 4762 cases in 2017 (5196 cases in 2016)
  • Violation of transport rules which resulted in death - 322 cases in 2017 (345 cases in 2016)
  • Falsification of documents - 1438 cases in 2017 (1367 cases in 2016).
