A petition signed in support for a scandalous punk rock band Pussy Riot has been issued in Russia demanding the authorities to free the detained members of the band.

"On March 3, 2012 ahead of the Presidential Elections the Russian authorities detained four members of the feminist punk rock band Pussy Riot on charges of hooliganism and religious intolerance. The charges could lead up to two years in jail. The band performed a song Punk Entreat in the Moscow Cathedral on February 21 as a sign of protest against Putin's policy.

Pussy Riot has organized number of demonstrations against Putin, including a concert on the Red Square in Moscow where the band protested against the rigged elections. Several members of the band were arrested then, however they were soon released by the authorities under the human rights groups pressure. According to the musicians "this is a political case. The regime wants to turn us into the political prisoners the release of which we have been demanding with our demonstrations."

We express our concern over the persecution of artists for their political views and demand the release of the detained musicians," the petition reads.
