US State Department condemns 17 May violence in Tbilisi

On 20 May US Department of State Condemned the violence of 17 May against gay rights demonstrators in Tbilisi, declaring that "such acts of intolerance have no place in democratic societies."
"The United States places great importance on the protection of the human rights and fundamental freedoms of all people, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender persons around the world," Acting Deputy Spokesperson of the US Department of State Patrick Ventrell said at a daily press briefing in response to a request to comment on the events of 17 May in Tbilisi.
