Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava has said he is not aware of the details of the detention of the former Defense Minister Davit Kezerashvili.
"Davit Kezerashvili is my friend. Our friendship did not begin on the basis of politics and will not end on this basis either. I am not aware of the details [of his detention] and cannot say either what France's decision will be on his extradition. However, judging by analogy principle, in each such case earlier, French courts denied extradition to the Georgian state," Gigi Ugulava told journalists on 16 October.
As the Tbilisi Mayor noted, Davit Kezerashvili is charged, among others, with several counts, including on the so-called Rike and Imedi TV cases, because of his friendship with Ugulava.
The former Defense Minister of Georgia Davit Kezerashvili was detained in France on 14 October. According to the Interior Ministry of Georgia, Davit Kezerashvili is charged with several counts, including receiving bribe in especially huge amount, violating customs rules by an organized group resulting in especially huge losses, money laundering by organized group and receiving illegal income, misappropriating especially large amounts by an organized group.
The Chief Prosecutor's Office of Georgia is now preparing extradition documents.
