Aleksandre Chikaidze, the Head of Tbilisi Main Division of the Interior Ministry, will become a new Interior Minister, the current Interior Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced during a news briefing on 9 November. "Aleksandre grew up in the family of a dignified police officer and he had a very good father," Garibashvili said.
The position of the interior minister became vacant after Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, who plans to step down by the end of this month, nominated Irakli Garibashvili as his successor.
According to current interior minister, Aleksandre Chikaidze has successfully passed through actually every stage. "First, he was an operative employee; then he became investigator and thereafter, the head of one of police departments in Tbilisi. After that I appointed him as the head of Kakheti Regional Main Division and he brilliantly handled his job there," Irakli Garibashvili said. He added that Tbilisi is the most complex city in Georgia and at his current position Chikaidze proved that he is a good manager. "I fully trust Mr. Chikaidze and I am sure, he will be a very efficient minister," said Irakli Garibashvili.
For his part, Aleksandre Chikaidze thanked the minister. "I will do everything to continue the job which Mr. Garibashvili started in a dignified manner," he said.
According to the Interior Ministry's data, Aleksandre Chikaidze was born in Tbilisi in1985. He graduated the faculty of history at the Tbilisi State University's, having majored in diplomacy. He is a police colonel. Since March 2013, he has been the Head of Tbilisi Main Division of the Interior Ministry. From 2012 to March 2013, he served as the head of Kakheti Regional Main Division while from 2011 to 2012, he was the head of the Gldani-Nadzaladevi department of Tbilisi Main Division. From 2008 to 2011, he worked in various departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
