Giga Bokeria, the Foreign Relations Secretary of the United National Movement (UNM), said they detected a fact of casting a ballot with a forged ID in the voting precinct #80 in Zugdidi district. According to Bokeria, the evidence available to the UNM provides the ground to say that this is a pre-planned action which a small group of people would be unable to carry out.
"Throughout the entire pre-election campaign we witnessed a very transparent targeted campaign of open violence directed specifically against the UNM, which was conducted countrywide and especially in Zugdidi, in Samegrelo region. This all was conducted openly with the involvement of government officials starting from Prime Minister to other high public officials, through provoking violence, protests at the UNM offices, attempts of intimidation. As we see that did not prove sufficient for the government and the process has continued. What we have seen in Anaklai in the morning provides the ground to think that a certain group of people experiencing a personal tragedy was pointed in advance to those voting precincts which they were to attack. In one of such precincts, where the UNM garnered very good results in the previous election, the election process was thwarted. A little while ago, an instance of casting a ballot with a forged ID was detected. We do not know the scale of this project but the evidence we have obtained provides the ground to say that this is a pre-planned action which a small group of people would be unable to perform," Bokeria said.
