Prosecution asks pre-trial detention for Saakashvili


Chief Prosecutor's Office of Georgia filed a motion in the Tbilisi City Court asking a pre-trial detention for former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, former Justice Minister Zurab Adeishvili and former Defence Minister Davit Kezerashvili., the Prosecutor's Office press service told Tabula. The hearing into the motion is scheduled for 19.00 at the Tbilisi City Court.

The Prosecutor's Office has not filed a motion to the court on demanding a pre-trial detention for former Mayor of Tbilisi Gigi Ugulava and former Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili. Ugulava is in a pre-trial detention in a separate case, while the Kutaisi City court sentenced Merabishvili to 5 years in prison a few months ago.

Chief Prosecutor's Office of Georgia filed criminal charges against former President, Mikheil Saakashvili on 28 July. According to the Prosecutor's Office the charges have been brought in relation to the "mass raid on demonstrators on November 7 2007, storming Imedi TV station and seizing Arkadi Patarkatsishvili's assets."

The Prosecutor's Office said same charges were brought against former Interior Minister, Vano Merabishvili, former Chief Prosecutor, Zurab Adeishvili, former Defence Minister, Davit Kezerashvili, and former Mayor of Tbilisi, Gigi Ugulava.
