The leader of the Labor Party in Georgia, Shalva Natelashvili, announced at a briefing today that he will be participating in the 2018 presidential elections.

Natelashvili heavily criticized the current government leadership in Georgia, calling them “robbers and leeches,” and said that his motivation for running for the presidency is one of “self-sacrifice” for the people.

"I have been thinking a lot about how to congratulate my people for Christmas and the New Year. There is no better way to congratulate people in our country than an expression of willingness for a self-sacrificing battle.

Next year's presidential elections are the last where the people will vote for the president [directly]. We will have to make sure it is the last elections for the banker oligarch [former PM Bidzina Ivanishvili]. Thus, I want to announce to my country and the world that I am starting the battle for the presidency 10 months before the elections.

I am ready to end the oligarch’s regime and banish it from politics. I am ready to return democracy, legality, fairness and equality to the people. I am ready to give work to unemployed people, worthy pensions to pensioners, education to students, medicine for the sick... I am ready to return our country back...

For this we will be facing very serious battles because the robbers, the bankers, the leeches will not give up anything, they still have hope for silver,” Natelashvili said.
