What would you think if I mentioned “arctic” and “monkeys” together? Most probably you would imagine those poor animals freezing in the snow. Well, you are mistaken. “Arctic Monkeys” is the name of the British band that I adore. So, “Alice” could not miss the chance of attending their concert in Baltimore.
Since I mentioned Baltimore, there are two things that one has to know about me. First of all, just like Alice, I am quite curious. So, I try explore everything around me, get acquainted with all kind of people, engage in every activity. The last but not the least thing about me is that I adore active city life. That is why I decided to leave Utica for a while, to attend my favorite rock band concert.
Imagine, Saturday morning, six a.m. I have slept for an hour only. “Alice” and two of her friends put their things in the car and hit the road. They know that they will spend next seven hours in that car. Out of those seven hours, first four are particularly “interesting” – the view out of the window does not change – semi-rural areas, autumn trees. At some point I even thought that we were desperately lost. However, finally, we got to the spot. Well, it’s a bit rude of me to call Baltimore “a spot” - have you ever seen the “Tom and Jerry” episode where suburban Jerry, while visiting big city is stunned because of everything he sees? My friends and I experienced pretty much the same. After all, we spent 2 months already in a really quiet town. The only entertainment for some people here is small intrigues, gossiping and “labeling” others. That is why returning to big city life was particularly exciting to me.
Here the events are developing in a too quick pace. Walking along streets, enjoying sun and knowing that somewhere “there” in Utica, it’s raining heavily; finally having lunch on veranda of one of the bars there and heading to the concert - doing everything that I missed made me feel alive.
I did not know that Arctic Monkeys had so many fans in US. Talking to them and sharing emotions made me realize that I was finally attending their concert. After some time of struggling for the place in first rows and listening to warm-up band (which was pretty good, by the way), the real fun begun. Imagine, the front man of the band, with Elvis Presley-styled hairdo is rocking the stage and driving the crowd crazy. Fans are singing with the performer. As soon as concert ends, they rush out to take pictures with band members. However, we left without waiting for their autographs. Though, the night was young and so were we. Therefore, we headed to the club area – street, which opens as a clubbing district at night. Dancing, getting acquainted with new personages of “Alice in Wonderland”, and freaking out because of some undesired attention – briefly, all that I missed.
Finally, we left Baltimore to come to cold, rainy, small, but still so “homey” Utica. While remembering everything I felt that I have lived at least three different days instead of one – me, changing moods and outfits every five minutes; friend, being a bit too scared for some subjective and objective reasons; dancing to the rock, country, 80-ies and 20-ies music during 3-4 hours; meeting persons you will never forget and those you wish you never knew; eating hot dog in the middle of nowhere at 5 in the morning – yes, adventures of Alice are not finished.
P.S. I named my second article Marie in Wonderland as well. However, I did not say anything about new characters that I met. Well, I am too overwhelmed with Baltimore events at the given moment. However, for those, who wanted to be mad hatter and a “magical mushroom” (why on earth, but still), maybe, if I continue writing, I will mention you in one of the passages.
