Russia is prohibited from taking part in the paralympic games in Rio 2016. The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) decided to ban Russia because of the recent doping scandal. In a July 2016 report, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accused Russian athletes of doping; the report found that from 2011 to 2015, the Ministry of Sports of Russia had been manipulating athletes’ urine samples to hide the doping.
Russia’s paralympic committee is planning to appeal against the decision banning their athletes from Rio 2016, in the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The Paralympic games of Rio 2016 will start on September 7. 267 Russian athletes are supposed to participate in 18 different sports.
