Leaders in Ukraine and Lithuania expressed support and solidarity with Georgia on August 8, in commemoration of eight years since the August 2008 war with Russia:
“Great tragedy has created solidarity and friendship between the Georgian and Ukrainian nations. We sincerely support Georgia’s territorial integrity as no one else can, and we will never recognize the puppet regimes in Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” - President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, on his Facebook Page.
“Eight years ago, Russia's war in Georgia should have been an example for the entire world. But then Russia’s annexation of Crimea showed us that it was not. The sanctions [on Russia] must continue,” - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Linas Linkevicius, on his Twitter page.
